THINGS I LIKE

INSPIRED BY TEACUPS

Friday night I entertained for some of my childhood girlfriends. It was so nice to see them, as we have been friends since grade school, however went to different highschools, colleges, and somehow, we all ended up back in Minneapolis. Needless to say, I hadn't seen them in forever...

It also gave me a great opportunity to get out some serveware that only sees the back of my cabinets.

As I began to get my things out, and light a few seasonal candles, it reminded me of the holidays at my maternal grandmothers home. Each meal was so spectacular, the table setting so beautiful and well thought out, and all of the accessories so perfectly fitting for each and every meal...

It also made me think of my maternal great grandmother - my namesake.  The only thing I inherited from her was her beloved tea cup collection. Every teacup and saucer is so different, yet all of them so ornate, and so lovely.

With my talented and always welcoming grandmothers on my mind... it had me thinking that I too [ the girl who says she absolutely never wants to own china ] just might want a few great entertaining pieces of my own. Pieces that aren't white and go with every occasion... pieces that truly make dinners at my home special for the people who attend them.

... things like monogrammed cocktail napkins, cutlery I adore, serving platters, plates and bowls that are unique, and of course, a few teacups here and there.

I think my pieces would be more like these. Pretty and ornate in their own rights, but different, not too matchy-matchy. A mix of classic french design, fun patterns, and great color combos.

Wouldn't a white monogram be fabulous on those napkins!?

  1. I love your choices! I do have to agree that dinners were nice with the fine china and pretty pieces that would appear for the most special of occasions. I was lucky enough to inherit many of my grandmother's teacups as well and what I loved as a child is that they were used daily - my grandpa refused to drink his tea out of anything else! :)

  4. I love a pretty table as well. I was lucky enough to inhertite china, teacups, anitque linen napkins and silverwear from grandparents and love it all- I am on the hunt for foral mix matched plates to layer ontop of my china- I love the bright colours of vintage china and the pretty scalloped detail that they often have. I almost bid on a set of vintage gold bamboo flatwear last week on ebay but since I have two sets already, decided not too but they were soooo gorgeous. I love all of your inspiration shots- so lovely!

  5. What a great post! I've thought how nice a mix matched teacup collection would be but even in a house I don't have the space! I've certainly been collecting a few nice pieces here and there though!

  11. Isn't it wonderful to inherit really special heirlooms from your family? I'm like you, I never really wanted 'matching' everything, but I do appreciate a few beautiful pieces to entertain with as well as enjoy on a daily basis.
