Wander Over Wednesday

                                                     ... to The Neo-Traditionalist

And meet Katie. A girl on the go who has a great store for flea market finds!

My dream office looks like...

What I love most about my city... Oh my!  Well I moved this year from downtown Manhattan to wild and wonderful West Virginia and it’s been a true adventure.  My favorite thing about WV is the beauty of the mountains.  When you get a bit out of town it’s simply breathtaking.  Until I moved here I’d never seen a landscape anything like Appalachia---it’s a beautiful part of the country and boasts some great blue grass music.

What do you love most about your day? Cheesy though it may sound, the highlight of my day is when my fiance John comes home every evening.  Working at home can get lonely and I’m always eager for his company.

What is your favorite color palette? I am far too fickle to have a favorite, but I have been in a pink mood lately. Blush pinks and coral pinks- blame it on wedding fever.

When I'm not blogging I... am at flea markets and vintage shops finding new items for Katie Armour Home or on the phone with my friends from all over the world. Today I talked to people in D.C., Colorado, California, New York, and Nepal. Needless to say, I use a lot of minutes!

My favorite space in my home is:  Our bedroom. We have handsome block-printed John Robshaw bedding and I love any excuse to cuddle up with John and our pug Alfred to watch movies and such.  Alfred snores loudly and it never fails to make John and I laugh.

What are your 5 favorite things RIGHT now?
Road trips.  We’re moving to California this summer and are going to drive cross country with all our belongings.  It’s going to be such an adventure---I can’t wait to listen to lots of NPR podcasts and stop to see the Grand Canyon!  Alfred’s excited too...
Magazines.  They’re my weakness.  14+ subscriptions.  I started reading Vogue in sixth grade and it went downhill from there...
My engagement ring.  It’s the pave diamond love knot by Finn Jewelry.  The girls that started the company are so awesome and down-to-earth.  I didn’t want a solitaire and I love that it’s unconventional---the second I laid eyes on it I knew it was “the one.”  After John and I tried it on at the girls’ showroom on Great Jones Street we went for a yummy Italian dinner at Gemma.  I’ll never forget that day---I was on cloud nine.
Jamba Juice.  It was started in my hometown in California and was originally called “Juice Club.”  Ramzamatazz has been my favorite flavor since elementary school.  It reminds me of childhood and west coast sunshine.
My grandmother’s home overlooking the Edna Valley vineyards in California.  It has such happy memories of my grandfather (my hero) and John proposed there last summer.  We’re planning on having our wedding there too only my grandmother doesn’t know yet because she’s on vacation in Egypt.  I suppose someone ought to break the news that she's hosting...

KATIE'S THREE GREAT DESIGN TIPS
EMBRACE COLOR. People say to keep your walls light if you live in a small apartment. My first apartment was a teeny studio in San Francisco and I painted the walls deep Russian blue. Rather than trying to make it something it wasn’t with white walls and trick mirrors, I made a little jewel box out of it that won rave reviews from my guests.

MIX IT UP. Period rooms and sleek, ultra-modern rooms can be so lifeless. I love unexpected pairings. Use varying textures and don’t be afraid to play with the scale of things. Don’t buy everything all from one place either. Collect pieces from a variety of places over time. An eclectic design is far more likely to stand the test of time.

BUY WHAT YOU LOVE! At the end of the day you want to be surrounded with things that warm your heart and mean something to you. Don’t decorate your place to please others- its your sanctuary. Embrace it and make it your own. Coming home to a beautifully decorated space that reflects your personality is a fantastic feeling- treat yourself!

Thank You Katie!

What a gorgeous engagement ring and unique! The most popular bridal set rings are vintage inspired and modern designs. Long gone are the days of simple rings!
