REDEFINING

We have gone between redecorating, buying a place, renting a bigger place, and back to redecorating more times than I would like to mention over the past few months. Today I woke up bright and early at 7:15 in what M likes to call "my cleaning mood" and was ready to make some changes...
Working mostly, or entirely with what we've already got, I'm ready to add in a new sofa and work on the overall feel of the apartment. Originally styled very boldly, I'm ready to quiet things down a little bit. I'm dying for a white sofa, but that's just out of the question thankyou pets! ...

Despite the bold color, I plan to highlight the soft glamor of the gorgeous silk curtains that already exist against the white shelving and expansive windows...

On the blank wall that will be behind the new sofa... I'm going to highlight some of our favorite memories with a frame collage on some thin, free floating shelves...

and finally, work in a new ottoman or coffee table to give more space to set a few things down, and highlight some of our favorite books and greenery.

The main objective being to simply make the space feel bigger. Any of you living large in a small space with tips?

THE LIVED IN LOOK

The books, the art, the knick knacks - they all lend themselves to the overwhelming feeling of comfort in these spaces...

too often I find myself looking for a sense of order amongst my belongings.
its time to take a step back and let what will we be, just be.

because these spaces are perfect- as they are!

NATURAL BEAUTIES

The juxtaposition between natural elements and glamourous pieces is forever intriguing.
This design style rides a fine line- and when execute correctly, turns out beautifully.
Theres all at once a sense of comfort, earthiness, and sophistication. To me it seems like a concoction for never tiring of a space...

yummy velvet sofas against unfinished woods...

luxurious furs and wools...

and classically glamorous elements like tufting against raw materials

THE LIVING ROOM DEBATE

My apartment as I know it has become something drastically different.
We have been craving more space. In everyway. We needed storage, display space, and general floor space. So, we did away with our "focal wall" if you will, and put in a wall of shelving.

a little bit more of a design challenged that a highly styled console table, I still want to make it a focal point, while keeping the living room polished, but opening it up..

so today, I'm asking for your advice. We have two huge sofas, we love them more than words can describe, but they are bulky space fillers to say the least. My solution is a pair of really great, comfortable chairs...

but, M isn't sold. Do you have chairs in your living room? Do you feel they give openness, while still maintaining ultimate comfort?

COLOR WATCH: MINT GREEN

... not just reserved for your ice cream anymore, this subtle pastel is popping up all across the trend spectrum for spring. Fresh and fun, mint can certainly add a jolt of life to any space [or outfit]- even if its just in the form of a few great candlesticks!

this bookshelf is the perfect example of bringing a little color into a calm space without overwhelming it...

outdoor mesh balloon chairs? yes, please!

THE HUE IS BLUE

We use high gloss paints to bounce light off of furniture, give it a pretty finish, and to make things around our house look  brand new. Why not use it on the walls? These blue walls are are striking and stunning, and the high gloss adds a truly "polished" feel.

Miles Redd can do no wrong. The walls are a perfect shade paired with the red and fun floors!

This apartment just beckons you in. The buttery velvet sofa, classical touches, and subtle pops of color are beautiful.

HAPPY [COLORFUL] MONDAY!

I am so thrilled for the start of this week. For me, it really marks the beginning of a new year...

First, let me say- welcome. I see so many new faces here, which I am really excited about. For those of you who haven't been here long- I was in Europe the past three weeks with limited internet access [if you are expecting an email from me, I promise it's coming soon!]. I love getting around to all of your blogs, and will be doing so in the coming weeks...

Second- after being away for so long, I definitely missed certain things. With spring around the corner, one of those things is the unabashed use of color, pattern, texture, and overall overlap in interiors that are so unique...

I'm talking pink, yellow, and orange in the same room...

flowers, and more flowers in fabulous, albeit mismatched vases...

bright, brights + whites...

the use of pink- in general

pattern, upon pattern...

and subtle touches of glamour...

Have a happy Monday!

A SWEDISH RETREAT

Clearly a fresh new year has ushered in even more of an obsession with fresh, white spaces. This Swedish abode however, is different from your typical white space, and also that of a home whose pieces have been collected from around the world...

The cleanliness of this home provides the perfect base from the ethnic mixes of furniture, colors, and textures...

Its admirable the way that the homeowner/designer has enhanced the bones of this home with style pieces from so many different eras and cultures [ check out that blue chest paired with a parisian-esque chandelier and tropical tree]...

While originally this room did little aesthetically for me, it seems the fabulous chandelier presents itself as the ease and careless bit of the space - making is flow with relaxation and maybe even imagination.

while the view is undeniably the statement maker of this lofted area - that floor lamp made me fall in love...

LOVELY LUCITE

I adore lucite, but I especially love lucite tables. They can give such a contemporary element to a room without being the focal point, even in the most traditional of rooms. They are also perfect for smaller spaces that need the surface space...

INDUSTRIAL FEMININITY

This amazing loft is a true testament to just what is feminine chic. The clean lines that are evident in most lofts, are well defined with bright white paint, and the pops of pink make it flirty and fun, but somehow not completely overwhelming...

I love the glamorous touches in this loft. The flowing window panels and crystal draped chandelier add a strong sense of charm.

This kitchen is a cooks dream - the pink Smeg fridge doesn't hurt either!

Finally - those ceilings! I think they would have sold me alone - they are beautifully crafted but have an old world feel... stunning!
